I've been selling real estate in the Denver metropolitan area continuously since 1978. In addition I've been managing broker for large residential real estate firm and have taught Continuing Education and the GRI program for Colorado Association of Realtors.

Currently, I am the managing editor for "All Denver Real Estate Blog". Various real estate brokers from across the Denver metropolitan area contribute stories and posts about what's going on in their real estate market. You are exactly right, Dan. Some of my best clients have real estate licenses. But, there is a huge difference in having a license from the State and being a Realtor who routinely adds value to real estate transactions. Still, I am glad some teachers actually take the extra effort to get a current real estate license to know a little more about their subject matter. Now, if they would just go sell a few homes, they would learn even more. What's that old saying: "Those who can, do. Those who can't, teach" Denver MLS Castle Pines North

The current struggle between Brokers and Agent Sites is focusing on use of the term MLS. The National Association of Realtors has passed rules prohibiting the use of the term MLS on agent sites. The problem is that many MLS services for Agents, called IDX, no longer have the name MLS in their title.. So prohibiting the use of their term MLS seems an unfair restraint of trade. MLS has become a generic description to the general public. Banning the use the use of term jsut points out how desperate Brokers are to maintain their control of the IDX system. The ban isn't helping. Building a better MLS system would.

The discount brokerage model has always worked well in a "good market". But, when sales decline, so does the model. We saw saw the same thing happen in Denver in the 1980'2. Two major discount brokers closed up shop when sales declined due to the energy bust then. Expect more closing of those brokers.
